Hi.
I’ve never thought I needed to be a great wildlife artist, or a great pop artist, or even a great artist at all. Creating is a meditation for me – It’s not a job.
Being a successful graphic designer during the day has freed up my art subject matter at night. Everything I’ve created here is because I just felt like it. If I rely on my art to feed me it will coalesce into something more digestible. And if my main worry is how well consumed my paintings are then I may as well just keep doing graphic design into the wee hours instead of drawing and painting.
I have 4 main series I’m showing casing on this site.
I went to art school majoring in graphic design and illustration, so this type of work is kind of my expertise I guess. Everything you see here was created because I’m either a fan or been inspired by this person. Portraits of Lil’ Jizz EZ or whoever is popular this year would sell better – I guess I’m just not interested wasting my free time creating more disposable shit for the world to choke on.
So I don’t have a whole lot to show here since I’m just starting this venture. I love art and I love wildlife, so it makes sense I would combine the two. I’ve dabbled in the past but am now getting serious. It’s a slow process since I only work about once per week and I refuse to rush these paintings. This series might take me the rest of my life to complete and I’m ok with that.
I know the market is flooded with this style of painting. Why would anyone buy my picture of a duck when they can get Terry Redlin’s picture of a duck. I don’t aspire to be a national known wildlife artist. I just feel like painting wild animals – so I am.
These works are generally inspired by songs I’ve heard, books I’ve read, or thoughts I’ve had sitting in the woods or in my boat. They start out as thoughts that morph into pencil sketches that end up as digital drawings done with Procreate, some of which will also become paintings.
My general theme is the duality of man – I’m intrigued by the inner voice that leads us to either virtue or self destruction and how that voice is sacredly tied to our divine union with God.
These are the bourbon fueled work done late at night, usually after I’ve had a long session of work on the other 3 series. I don’t take these too seriously, they are done as a way to wind down and also spark an idea for the Artist Series. Some of them turn out pretty cool so I offer them here as affordable originals.
Thanks for stopping by and reading about me. I truly appreciate it!
